G arland Danielle Davis (Higgins), a native of Hartford, Connecticut, was inspired since childhood to become a writer in her adult life. She honed her passion for writing as a student in the Windsor Public Schools. She continued her education as a journalism major at Howard University, earned a Master’s in Communications at Regent University, and a Master of Divinity at Yale University Divinity School. She is an author and civic leader whose passion rests on loving God and God’s people particularly those counted as “the least of these.”
Her early years set the framework for her experiences that lead her on the path of Christian education and writing. As a child she wanted to become a teacher. She loved pretending at home with her brothers as the class with a chalkboard in front of them so she could “teach” the day’s lesson. Garland always loved to write short stories, children stories, and helping others with their writing projects. Little did she know that she would become an author in her adult life. In 2013, she wrote a book for teen girls, My Soul Speaks: Inspirations from Life’s Experiences; and, in 2019 co-authored another book, Bishop Morris Brown: The Invisible Man of the African Methodist Episcopal Church.
While working at the Connecticut State Capitol, she was a press writer for state legislators which included press releases, speeches, opinion editorials, and other writing projects. She also wrote articles for the newsletter while serving on the Board of Directors of Connecticut Coalition Against Domestic Violence. She has helped numerous people with their writing skills by serving in areas of coach and consultant. She strives to boost the confidence of those who are struggling with writing skills or need a little push to get started. Because of her love for writing, Garland has inspired others to enjoy writing as well.
Garland is an Assistant Pastor/Director of Christian Education at Antioch AME Church where she writes curriculums for Bible Study, Sunday School, Vacation Bible School in addition to the New Member’s Packet literature. Garland’s civic leadership shines most notably through her membership in Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc where she offers her writing skills.
With years of writing and continued development, she will encourage and inspire you to tell The Write Story!
